Join Andrea Gingras, for an informative workshop on starting up a home daycare. Learn about contracts,
policies, home safety, rules and regulations, advertising and much more. *Start Up Kits can be ordered from our office ahead of time for $5.00. $7.00 if we mail it out.

STORYTELLER’S FELT
The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe Toggle
January is often a restart time for home daycare with new children and if nothing else, getting back into routine after the Christmas break. THIS set includes figures to tell the rhyme, 10 children to count, clothing to sort by colour name and outline, and toys with uppercase letters to place in order matching the outlines. Teddy bears are found on each page. Extra activities are included to extend the play value. Join Sharon Cunningham at our office on Sat., Jan 12th, 10 a.m. to noon. COST: $20.00. Please register and send your money ASAP as Sharon has to order the kits. Other kits will be available to buy at the workshop. Please bring scissors, markers and a glue stick.
LET’S HAVE FUN WITH WINTER SONGS
Now that winter is creeping up on us, cozy up with some new songs and fingerplays about the winter. You will take home a handout with lots of new and fun songs to help keep you busy during the cold months. You will have the opportunity to make 4 make and takes, so please bring markers, scissors, pencil crayons and sharpie markers. Hope to see you there! INTRODUCTION TO THE DIE CUTTER
Wondering what die cutting is all about? Join Lise and learn about die cutting techniques and materials. Learn how to make games, books, decorations, art activities, and more. You will also get to try some simple techniques. FEE: $5.00 Please bring scissors, markers and a glue stick. Tues., Jan. 15th, 7– 9 p.m. at our office. Limited to 8 people new to the die cutter.
THE MITTEN STORYBOARD (Repeat)
Join Suzanne Hale and make props for a Canadian version of “The Mitten”. You will make a storyboard, a file folder game, lacing card, as well as props for math games. Please bring scissors, markers and a glue stick. Tues., Jan. 22nd, 7-9 p.m. at our office. FEE: $12.00.
BIG BOOKS AND BEYOND
How to promote literacy and add music and movement to your favourite books.
Please bring your favourite story, for children between 16 months and 6 years of age. (Simple stories work best). During this workshop we will explore books, how children learn through music, how to include instruments, and vocal exploration and play, as well as movement to your story time. Barb will provide some instruments for exploring, as well as music for exploring movement to. Please dress comfortably for moving creatively. TOBOGANNING FUN...Repeat from last year
Join Suzanne Hale for a workshop featuring this fun winter sport. You will make the felt board story “Bear’s Yellow Toboggan”, a snowflake counting book, clothespin math game, big/little colour puzzles, lacing tools and number sentences. Please bring scissors,markers and a glue stick. Tues., Jan. 29th, at our office from 7—9 p.m. FEE: $15.00.
VALENTINE’S CRAFT SHARING
Join Tammy Griffin for this “sharing” workshop. Bring your Valentine’s craft (a sample) as well as the instructions. Share with the group—you will walk away with the instructions for everyone’s craft. You may peruse our books as well as die cut (remember to book your time on the die cutter). Please register ASAP. INCOME TAX (Repeat)
Join Andrea Gingras on Thurs., March 6th or Wed. March 19th, 7-9 p.m. and learn how to do your own
daycare income tax. Andrea has been doing her own income tax for the last 20 years. She will walk you through it step by step. Space is limited—register early. These workshops will be held at our office.
STORYBOOK EXTENSIONS
Learn some new activities, crafts and songs to use after reading some of your favourite children’s books. Join Heather Ashe and make a “Go Roar”/ dinosaur memory game and a color recognition dinosaur action game to use after How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight by Jane Yolen. Two feltboard rhyming activities to use after reading Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown. A farm activity with an emphasis on letter recognition and the die cut animals to retell the story or sing “Who took the book from the bookshelf?” song for Book! book! book! by Deborah Bruss. Ideas can be used for Dinosaur, Bedtime or Farm Animals themed days!! A handout with more suggestions on storybook extensions will be given out. FEE: $15.00 Please note the books/stories are not provided as part of the workshop—they are available at the library.

BUS, FIRE TRUCK AND AUTOMOBILES
Join Jennifer Mohring for this fun and creative transportation workshop. Participants will make a magnetic fishing game, a bean bag game, a roadway playing surface, an interactive storyboard and more— which can all fit into a multi-purpose school bus! Ideas for other transportation songs, crafts and recipes will also be provided. Please bring scissors, white glue and markers. Hope to see you on Tues., Feb. 12, 7-9:00 p.m. at our office. Making and using hand-felted resources in your home daycare. An invitation to new and experienced hand-felters to come and make some new storytelling props and share storytelling strategies. Experienced felters: please bring a few stories, songs and strategies of how hand-felted resources worked with your day care children. For new felters, using the basic dry-felting technique, you will make a gnome personage, as well as a home or nest, and an animal. Experienced and new felters will work together. Consider this a felting-jam session! Participants will leave with stories, poems and some of their own hand-felted storytelling resources. (This workshop is divided into 2 sessions. How to Talk to Parents So They Respect Your Work
You know how to deal with the children, but do you sometimes find it hard to communicate with their parents? This workshop will help you to communicate positively and to use negotiation skills to work through difficult situations. There will be opportunities to discuss cases from your own experience. The subjects covered include recognition of the value of the work care providers do, the rights and responsibilities connected to providing care, caregivers’ expectations of parents, various communication styles, how to be assertive without being aggressive, and factors that promote clear and respectful

St. Patrick’s Day Themed Workshop
Join Doreen Cowin for fun and games with leprechauns, shamrocks and pots of gold! This all new workshop will be full of activity ideas for math, language, dramatic play, fine and gross motor activities...There will be a few French songs and rhymes. Please bring markers, glue sticks and scissors.

WINTER MAKE AND TAKE—Repeat
Join Doreen Cowin and make learning games for children 2 and over. Most activities will centre around snowflakes and snowmen. Learn how to make large dice and games to use them with. SETTING CONSEQUENCES
Children learn self-discipline when they have to experience the consequences of their actions. But what consequences should be imposed and when? This workshop will discuss at what age to start using this way of teaching self-discipline and will help you set and maintain reasonable consequences. Consequences don’t need to be severe to work, just inevitable. Join Betsy Mann on Thurs., Feb., 7th.
BOOKS THAT TICKLE - Repeat
Doreen Cowin will lead you in making felt board props for “funny” stories. Stories include: Monkey Face, No More Baths, The Best Bottom, Grandpa’s Pet, Animals Should Never Wear Clothes, and Mrs. McNosh Hangs Up Her Wash. Many stories available in French. Bring scissors, markers and a glue stick.
