Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014

January 19, 2015

An independent child care provider can care for 5 children under the age of 13; the provider's own children under the age of 6 count in her numbers; of those 5 children only 2 children can be under 2 years of age. Exceptions: If a provider chooses to only have 1 child under 2 years of age then her own jk/sk child doesn't count during the school year. *As of Aug 31, 2017 the provider must include 10, 11, 12 year olds in the count of children she cares for. **An unlicensed provider must inform parents that they are unlicensed in writing (either hard-copy or electronic). A provider must keep proof of her disclosure for 2 years. The disclosure must say: "This child care program is not licensed by the Government of Ontario.” For more information check out the Ministry Guidelines under "Information for Caregivers". Questions?
